THE LOOK-BACK

Spotted by chance off the side of a road in the desert, this white-throated monitor was scuttling up the rocks when he paused... turning back with his tongue flicking and eyes locked on mine. A fleeting moment of shared curiosity in the dry heat, as if he was as surprised as I was.
