NOCTURNE FOR MY FATHER

This image was taken in the backyard of my farm-holding in South Africa, just weeks after my father passed away on 17 September 2021. He was a jazz musician who lived much of his life at night... his world was rhythm, quiet, and moonlight. For a month after his passing, I kept seeing owls. This southern white-faced owl visited for several days and nights, often just watching, silent and still. It felt like something more than coincidence.

A quiet presence. A last set. A sign. This image, and this moment, will always be his.
